At the beginning of my pottery journey, cracks and firing failures were common. Kiln-unloading days were filled with excitement, but discovering imperfections often brought frustration. At first, I tried to hide the cracks, until I realized they needed to be approached with intention.
That realization led me to Kintsugi — the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics by honoring, rather than concealing, their fractures. Through this practice, imperfections become part of the story, transformed into strength and beauty.

Kintsugi, or gold joinery,
is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics
with natural urushi lacquer and 24K gold powder.
Instead of hiding damage, it highlights the cracks,
honouring the history of each piece.
Urushi, a sap from the Toxicodendron vernicifluum tree,
cures into a durable, water-resistant finish.
Because each layer must harden naturally,
even a small repair can take 2–3 months to complete.

I believe in lasting quality and the beauty of the imperfection.
